Two industry-leading XP 1200 spraybooths have been installed at the 16,000ft2 Lloyds Autobody in Manchester, North West England’s premier vehicle repair centre, in a project managed by David Utting Engineering.

Lloyds Autobody has built a strong reputation over some 20 years of trading and, with a team of 20 employees, has secured manufacturer accreditations from Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and Saab. The Company’s main Manchester base is a purpose-built bodyshop repair facility which caters for the prestigious vehicle market and has been operating in Wythenshawe since 2000, processing accident repairs for all leading insurance and vehicle management companies.

In late 2009, Lloyds commissioned a full refurb programme for the workshop area. Roy Hartwell, director at Lloyds explains David Utting’s involvement:

“David designed, planned and controlled the project – and the costs - from start to finish. Having shown us how he would be a one stop shop for all our installation requirements - including electric heating and gas, he installed 2 new XP1200 spraybooths , a stainless steel mixing room, aluminium and major steel repair cabins.”

The XP spraybooth range has been widely acclaimed by major paint manufacturers; the XP1200 is renowned for high quality, cost efficiency and durability. At Lloyds, a major restructuring saw the raising and expansion of a small mezzanine area at the correct height to accommodate the parts store, canteen and plant room. In all this was expanded to 260m2 with panels installed to close the shop side. Over a 16 week project, the repair centre operated every working day bar one – something greatly appreciated by the company directors.

“David was always on hand to advise and listen to changes that were required throughout the refurb,” continues Roy. “He held on site meetings with us every week to update us on the bespoke design and build programme he’d created for us. It all made for a very good project. His attention to detail and original ideas were superb and his management , organising and bringing together all the different suppliers for the installations was second to none.”
